February brings the 100th Day of School and muchmore…

February 1st is the 100th Day of School at SIES and lots of fun classroom activities to celebrate!  February is a busy month at school with some key dates to remember:

  • Feb. 1st is 100th day;
  • Feb. 8th is PTA meeting 5:30 Pizza by Andolini’s and a performance by the 2nd Grade led by Mrs. Mathias;
  • Many Classes are having Valentine’s Day Parties on Feb. 11th and the SIES Kindergarden Teddy Bear Parade is the 11th as well.
  • Feb. 16th is a early release day and the 21st is the Presidents Day holiday.

Finally, we wrap us a busy busy SIES February with the Make a Splash Bash! This fun event is a great way to support your school as our top sponsor SCBT along with additional support from Frankie’s Fun Park and the Wind Jammer help us underwrite our expenses allowing the funds we make from the auction and tickets sales to support our school programs directly! The tickets are $30 a piece and include food and wine/beer plus entertainment and an opportunity to purchase some great auction items. Click the button below to buy tickets.

Friends and PTA Fall/Winter Update

As we wrap up the beginning of 2011 with a month of school that seemed to have more ”days off” than “days in” and snow too – parents and students are trying to get back in gear!

We want to share some exciting events coming up at SIES:

Alice in Wonderland at SIES 1/25 and 1/27 at 6:30 in the cafeteria at SIES.  The performances are always top notch, Broadway caliber and funded partially through donations to Friends and PTA so please if you like what you see – support your school with a donation or consider a Musical Sponsorship for next year.

The 2011 Musical Sponsor is The Rabin Family. Through their ownership of Andolini’s and Juanita Greenberg’s they sponsored this wonderful production. Many thanks to the Rabin Family for their support of the musical this year and their dedication to SIES.

Mark your calendar – SIES Make a Splash Bash sponsored by SCBT is coming soon! February 26, 2011 at the Windjammer, Isle of Palms. Tickets on sale soon.   This is truly a can’t miss SIES event, Live and Silent auction, Dancing and Fun!  If you would like to donate an auction item or have questions about the event or want to volunteer on the committee please email Lucie McLaughlin, Splash Bash Chairperson at Luciemcl@yahoo.com.

We want to thank you, the SIES community, for the wonderful energy and efforts that have helped move SIES forward this school year.  It is with your help and support we have accomplished alot and we are only half way through the year! 1. Fall Fest was a great start to the year and our event leader, Stephanie Conley was wonderful. 2. Our SIES Innisbrook sale was our most successful ever and the volunteer leader, Susan Gourdin did an amazing job from beginning to end. We raised over $12k for SIES and just received a check for the Internet sales last week another $1,500.  3. Volunteers – our SIES volunteers have really lifted a burden off the staff by helping with office duties, copying, classroom help and so much more.  Thank you! Please make sure to show up to your shifts and assignments or find a replacement!  Melissa Kelly has led the Volunteers this year and she has done a wonderful job. 5. E-Wave – Kathy Bolles Beard and Susan Hill Smith have worked very hard to make these informative and timely. Our thanks to them as well.  6. Our Directory - Chrissy Lorenz led the super successful directory efforts this year building on last year and it will be even better in 2011-2012!

Drop off is 7:10 am to 7:30 am with the tardy bell at 7:35 am and school will be dismissed at 2:30pm.

Drop off and Pick up TRAFFIC FLOW Information – Important parents and families please read carefully. The Mount Pleasant Police Chief Sewell and our own Chief Howard worked together to develop a safe Drop-off and Pick-up plan for our school at the 1120 Rifle Range location.  They are requesting the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island parents travel  to Mount Pleasant via the Ben Sawyer/Stith Bridge. Proceed Right onto Chuck Dawley (around the Piggly Wiggly shopping center). Travel Chuck Dawley to Myrick Road. Take a Right at Myrick Road and you will go to the far end of the drop off loop on Myrick and take a left into the drop off loop from Myrick. Teachers and Staff will greet your child as they did last year and then you will proceed to the exit and take a Right back onto Myrick Road and proceed back to the light at Chuck Dawley.  The traffic from Whitesides will be on Rifle Range near their new campus at the same time in the morning so avoiding that congested area is important. There is a parking lot on the Myrick Road side of the school near the ballfield that will be for walk in drop off and some reserved faculty and staff parking.  Please note that the front loop at school next to the playground on Rifle Range will be for Bus traffic during drop off and pick up.  It will be visitor parking at other times.  Additionally, the parking lot that is on the far side of the school will have parking for staff, faculty and visitors as well.  This parking lot will also serve as the Kaleidescope parking lot as it is adjacent to the cafeteria.   A detailed map can be found on the link below.   There will be police officers helping with this traffic flow at the start of school and you will be unable to take at right or left onto Myrick from Rifle Range.  This plan was developed to keep our SIES families safe and prevent major traffic backups on busy streets during morning rush traffic so please be patient while everyone learns the route.  Walk-in parents will park in the Myrick Road parking lot near the ballfield. Please be aware it is a longer walk to the front of the new school so please allow enough time.
